The haul from our pits runs east on FM 1462, the same road that crosses the Brazos. Rosharon sits about seven miles past that bridge. From the FM 521 crossing, trucks can reach most jobs in the area quickly. Sites on the east side come off the SH 288 interchange instead. TxDOT has had crews widening 288 from Rodeo Palms south toward CR 60, so we plan around that traffic. Short haul distance is the whole point. Every mile off the round trip is money back on a hundred load order.
Access on site decides how fast the dirt lands. Open acreage is easy, and we can run trucks straight to the dump point. Subdivision lots in Sierra Vista or Southern Colony are tighter, with curbs, utilities and other trades working. We stage there and shuttle when it makes sense. On volume jobs we start early and run late. Adding trucks beats adding days when a pour date is fixed. Tell us the window and we will build the cycle around it.
Dirt gets ordered by the cubic yard, and the numbers grow fast. One acre covered a foot deep takes about 1,613 cubic yards. Raising a half acre lot by two feet lands in the same neighborhood. That is why fill jobs here get counted in loads rather than in pickup beds. We take the pad size, the finished elevation and the existing grade, then figure the yardage. Adding for compaction comes next, because placed fill settles as it packs down.
Fill goes in lifts rather than in one dump. We spread it in layers, then compact each layer before the next one goes down. Moisture has to be close to right, which matters on clay through a wet Brazoria spring. Compacted lifts hold their elevation. Loose fill settles later, and it takes the slab or the driveway with it. Our trucks and our machines work the same job, so hauling and placing stay on one schedule.
